Our Counter-terrorism and Aviation Unit was established in March 2003 to manage the planning, development and implementation of our counter-terrorism and aviation capability.

It is a vital component of a whole-of-Government counter-terrorism strategy which incorporates agency partnerships, resource-sharing and complementary operations to enhance emergency service delivery to the people of NSW and to protect our environment.

The Unit has developed a corporate Security Alert Policy which aligns with Federal National Security Alert Levels. This policy sets out enhanced security procedures and physical security arrangements to protect Fire & Rescue NSW personnel and critical infrastructure.
