Fire and Rescue NSW operations continue following commercial laundry fire - Parramatta
Published: 25 Mar 2025 09:03am
Fire and Rescue NSW crews are on scene this morning, having battled a major building fire in Parramatta overnight.
The blaze broke out at approximately 1.10am in the Dunlop Street commercial laundry premises.
On route to the incident, firefighters identified a well-developed fire and immediately escalated the response to at '10th alarm' blaze.
More than 100 firefighters and 30 fire trucks, including four aerial ladder platform trucks worked to contain the blaze, which took approximately three hours to bring under control.
The fire threatened adjoining buildings, including a nearby veterinary surgery. Firefighters safely evacuated the surgery, including three animals recovering from surgery and an on-duty nurse. All were unharmed and have since returned to the premises.
Crews are managing deep-seated hotspots, made difficult by the partial collapse of the building's roof and walls.
FRNSW Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) specialists have assessed air quality and water runoff, with no contamination detected. Water samples have been taken for further testing as a precaution, and FRNSW is liaising with the Environment Protection Authority (EPA).
Residents and businesses in North Parramatta are advised to remain inside with doors, windows and vents closed while there may be smoke in the area.
Motorists are advised that Church Street northbound remains closed while firefighting operations continue.
No injuries have been reported.
NSW Police investigators are on scene with FRNSW fire investigators and will start to look at where and how the fire started, as soon as it is safe to access the building.
