Four people hospitalised after two units destroyed by fire - Cessnock

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews have extinguished a fire overnight at Cessnock, leaving two units destroyed.

More than 22 firefighters and six fire trucks responded to numerous Triple Zero (000) calls to a unit fire in Dixon Street at approximately 10.45pm.

On arrival, FRNSW crews observed two units well alight on the first and second storeys of the two-level residence, and immediately began attacking the flames.  

Crews managed to contain and extinguish the fire in approximately 45 minutes.

Twenty-one people were evacuated, with four people transported to hospital by NSW Ambulance paramedics.

FRNSW completed duties just after 1.00am, with the site handed over to NSW Police for further investigation.

FRNSW specialist fire investigators are attending the scene today with NSW Police forensics to assist with investigating the cause of the fire.
