Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews are battling a blaze that has destroyed a two-storey house this morning at Smithfield, in Sydney’s west.
Six trucks and 24 firefighters are at the scene of the fire that enveloped the top floor of the home in Theresa Street, around 7am.
A plume of heavy smoke issued from the home as a mother and her adult son made it to safety before fire crews arrived.
The fire has torn through the roof of the house, causing a partial collapse.
The crews have contained the flames and are working to extinguish the fire.
They have prevented the blaze from spreading to neighbouring homes.
The cause of the fire is yet to be established.
