Our emblem and name

Our name

On 1 January 2011 the NSW Fire Brigades changed its name to Fire & Rescue NSW (FRNSW).

The new name more accurately reflects the wider scope of services offered to the community. It proudly symbolises and supports the organisation’s vision for the future.

While our name and look changed in 2011, there has been no change to the way emergency services are delivered in NSW. FRNSW continues to be part of the state’s network of vital emergency services which work together 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to keep the community safe.

When writing the name of the organisation, the preferred form is, ‘Fire & Rescue NSW’.

FRNSW emblem

The FRNSW emblem includes the NSW State emblem with the State motto, 'Orta Recens Quam Pura Nites'. This is Latin for, 'Newly Risen How Brightly We Shine'.

The FRNSW emblem is the primary logo for operational use and is present on operational equipment, vehicles, building applications and uniforms.
