Fire inside Factory - Wetherill Park
Published: 03 Feb 2022 11:48am
Sounds of explosions and large volumes of smoke have erupted from a factory where firefighters are battling a fire at Wetherill Park in Greater Western Sydney today.
More than 100 people have evacuated from a neighbouring building and nearby properties after a dump truck caught fire inside a warehouse on Vicars Place just before midday.
HAZMAT specialists set up ground monitors to cool and monitor the area as crews had to withdraw from inside the building due to the risk of cylinders exploding from the heat.
Firefighters also extended the ladder platform of the aerial firetruck to monitor damage to the roof structure whilst crews can stay a safe distance from the incident.
Superintendent Adam Dewberry from Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) said this is a timely reminder that calling Triple Zero (000) for a fire emergency can be the difference between life and death, or a building or other property being saved or destroyed.
The Triple Zero (000) service is the quickest way to get the right resources from emergency services to help you. It should be used to contact Police, Fire or Ambulance services in life-threatening or time-critical situations.
