Fire and Rescue NSW responds to fire in multi-level unit block - Burwood

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) has extinguished a major fire in an eight storey unit block at Burwood, in Sydney's inner west.

Emergency services were called to the complex on Burwood Road just after 4:30am, finding flames and smoke in a ground level carpark and storage area.

FRNSW crews immediately attacked the blaze and assisted with the evacuation of 25 residents.

One firefighter sustained a minor ankle injury during the response and was transported to hospital by NSW Ambulance paramedics.

The fire took an hour and a half to control and extinguish.

Fire investigation specialists from NSW Police remain on-scene and will try to determine where and how the fire started.
