Firefighters contain acid emergency - Dubbo
Published: 25 Aug 2023 02:05pm
Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews have contained a major acid spill at a factory at Dubbo, in the state's central west.
The incident occurred at the business in Purvis Lane around 5.30 this morning.
Around 300 litres of acid spilt into machinery, sparking a small fire, which was quickly extinguished.
Approximately 24 staff were evacuated without injury.
Three fire trucks and a Hazardous Materials team responded to the location.
20 firefighters are neutralising the acid through the three levels of the building and diluting it into onsite containment tanks.
The crews, wearing fully-encapsulated protection suits, are carefully avoiding potential chemical reactions onsite.
They are in the process of decontaminating the premises and rendering the scene safe.
