Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) received numerous Triple Zero (000) earlier today about a large fire and plumes of black smoke which was visible across Sydney's eastern suburbs.
Upon investigation by FRNSW, it was determined that the cause of the fire was due to a commercial premises in Port Botany having activated a gas venting system through a high-rise safety flare.
As gas was vented through the flare, it ignited and caused large flames to shoot out of the stack.
The incident was deemed not to be a cause for concern for the community.
