Boat Fire - Beulah Wharf - Kirribilli
Published: 22 Dec 2021 08:46am
Emergency services have evacuated around 30 bystanders from the scene of a boat fire at Kirribilli on Sydney Harbour.
Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews arrived at Beulah Wharf just before 9am and found a 4m boat alight and two occupants trying to reach safety.
Firefighters had to use quick-thinking to stabilise the vessel and extinguish the blaze, whilst trying to cool Acetylene and Oxygen cylinders on board.
Once the flames were extinguished, the crews submerged the gas tanks in the water to lower their temperature.
Acetylene is a highly volatile, compressed gas that needs to be handled with extreme caution.
Police moved bystanders and nearby residents away from the affected area at the height of the fire.
The wharf remains closed to the public whilst the scene is secured.
