Monastery alight - Homebush

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews have extinguished a large fire and treated an occupant overcome by smoke at a Buddhist Monastery in Homebush in Sydney's West this morning.
Crews in Breathing Apparatus battled to contain and extinguish the blaze which had overwhelmed the building when firefighters arrived at Mackenzie Street just after 7:00 am.
One occupant suffering smoke inhalation and minor burns and was treated on-site by NSW Ambulance with the assistance of firefighters.
The Blaze had spread from the kitchen through exhaust ducts into the ceiling and sadly, much of the building was destroyed by fire.
Superintendent Adam Dewberry from Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) said this is a timely reminder that calling Triple Zero (000) for a fire emergency can be the difference between life and death, or a building or other property being saved or destroyed.
The Triple Zero (000) service is the quickest way to get the right resources from emergency services to help you. It should be used to contact Police, Fire or Ambulance services in life-threatening or time-critical situations.
