House Fire - Mount Druitt

Published: 01 Feb 2022 11:37am

An elderly woman has escaped a house fire after hearing a window crack from the heat at Mount Druitt in Greater Western Sydney today.

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) firefighters donned breathing apparatus to combat the single-level blaze and searched the home for further occupants.

A 70-year-old female was inside the property when the fire started but thankfully, self-evacuated prior to crews arriving to find flames issuing from the home at Coates Street after 11:30 am today.

The female was the sole occupant of the fire and was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance for smoke inhalation.

The front room of the house has been destroyed and the rest of the property has sustained significant heat and smoke damage.

Investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.

Superintendent Adam Dewberry from Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) said this is a timely reminder that calling Triple Zero (000) for a fire emergency can be the difference between life and death, or a building or other property being saved or destroyed.

The Triple Zero (000) service is the quickest way to get the right resources from emergency services to help you. It should be used to contact Police, Fire or Ambulance services in life-threatening or time-critical situations.
