Building Fire - Unanderra
Published: 08 Feb 2022 09:15pm
Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews responded to numerous calls to a disused Police Station alight last night at Unanderra, in Wollongong.
On arrival at Farmborough Road, at 9.15pm, firefighters were confronted with smoke and flames issuing from the second level of the two storey building.
Fire crews, wearing breathing apparatus, searched the building and determined no-one was inside.
20 firefighters fought the blaze for an hour before it was extinguished.
Approximately 50 per cent of the building was severely damaged by fire and the remainder suffered water and smoke damage.
FRNSW investigators are at the scene this morning, trying to determine the cause of the fire.
Superintendent Adam Dewberry from Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) said this is a timely reminder that calling Triple Zero (000) for a fire emergency can be the difference between life and death, or a building or other property being saved or destroyed.
The Triple Zero (000) service is the quickest way to get the right resources from emergency services to help you. It should be used to contact Police, Fire or Ambulance services in life-threatening or time-critical situations.
