Published: 19 Feb 2022 04:10pm
Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews have determined a cockroach bomb was the cause of a unit explosion yesterday at Rockdale in Sydney's south.
The small blast occurred in Frederick Street just after 4pm yesterday, blowing the unit's doors off their hinges and damaging cupboards.
The explosion also shattered all the windows in the apartment.
The occupant of the unit was transported to hospital with minor injuries. Superintendent Adam Dewberry from Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) issued a warning following this incident, saying that incorrect use can result in these types of explosions. “These items need to be used according to the manufacturer's specifications"
Which include, removing any clothing items, food and food utensils, removing all pets and plants, covering fish tanks and above all, ensuring that all sources of ignition like candles, pilot lights and gas flames are turned off prior to use.”
