Diesel on road creates havoc for motorists - Strathfield
Published: 24 Feb 2022 09:21am
Diesel covering a 1.5km stretch of road at Strathfield has caused several cars to lose control and slide across the road in Sydney's Inner West earlier today.
Hazmat specialists quickly placed booms across drains to prevent runoff into local waterways when firefighters arrived at Beresford Road just before 9:30 am.
Council supplied ten tonnes of sand allowing Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews to cover the diesel and render the area safe in just under 3 hours.
It is suspected that a bus containing 250 litres of diesel caused the hazardous material incident.
The NSW Environment Protection Authority has been contacted to investigate.
NSW Police closed down Beresford Road and Elva Street for the duration of the operation.
Superintendent Adam Dewberry from Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) said this is a timely reminder that calling Triple Zero (000) when you are involved in or see a crash can be the difference between life and death.
The Triple Zero (000) service is the quickest way to get the right resources from emergency services to help you. It should be used to contact Police, Fire or Ambulance services in life-threatening or time-critical situations.
