Three cottages lost to fire - Broken Hill
Published: 26 Feb 2022 01:38am
Fire has destroyed three abandoned cottages overnight in Broken Hill.
Three Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews arrived in Cobalt Street, just before 2am this morning, and deployed a ladder to remove iron sheets to get at the seats of the fire.
Flames had engulfed the three cottages and were threatening a fourth, when firefighters put on breathing apparatus and prevented the flames spreading.
They extinguished the blaze in just over two hours.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Superintendent Adam Dewberry from Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) said this is a timely reminder that calling Triple Zero (000) for a fire emergency can be the difference between life and death, or a building or other property being saved or destroyed.
The Triple Zero (000) service is the quickest way to get the right resources from emergency services to help you. It should be used to contact Police, Fire or Ambulance services in life-threatening or time-critical situations.
