Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews have provided medical treatment to a resident after his garage caught fire overnight at Mayfield, in Newcastle.
The crews arrived at the Wyvern Street home just after midnight and discovered the garage at the rear of the property well alight.
The 60-year-old man who was in the garage when the fire started, was suffering from smoke inhalation and burns to his arms.
The man was given emergency medical care by firefighters before being treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics and transported to hospital.
Fire crews quickly extinguished the garage blaze.
Superintendent Adam Dewberry from Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) said this is a timely reminder that calling Triple Zero (000) for a fire emergency can be the difference between life and death, or a building or other property being saved or destroyed.
The Triple Zero (000) service is the quickest way to get the right resources from emergency services to help you. It should be used to contact Police, Fire or Ambulance services in life-threatening or time-critical situations.
