Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews are at the scene of a fire in a factory at Port Kembla, on the state's south coast.
The fire is in a large metal processing area of the factory on Springhill Road.
Fire crews, in breathing apparatus, are attempting to contain the fire and prevent it spreading.
There is also an electrical sub-station nearby.
Firefighters have managed to contain the fire to an electrical switchboard in the basement.
The area is heavily smoke logged.
All workers have been evacuated from the factory.
NSW Ambulance are also in attendance.
Superintendent Adam Dewberry from Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) said this is a timely reminder that calling Triple Zero (000) for a fire emergency can be the difference between life and death, or a building or other property being saved or destroyed.
The Triple Zero (000) service is the quickest way to get the right resources from emergency services to help you. It should be used to contact Police, Fire or Ambulance services in life-threatening or time-critical situations.
