Fishing Trawler Sinks - Eden
Published: 20 Apr 2022 08:07am
Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews have assisted in a fishing trawler emergency at Eden on the state's south coast.
The vessel, carrying 50-tonnes of salmon, began taking on water at the middle wharf of the port around 3.30 this morning.
The boat was found partially submerged.
Firefighters worked with the owner to secure the trawler but it was taking on too much water and sank.
The fire crews then worked with NSW Water Police to deploy 100-metres of absorbent booms around the boat, to prevent the spread of fuel.
A plan to salvage the boat is being formed.
No injuries were reported.
Superintendent Adam Dewberry from Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) said this is a timely reminder that calling Triple Zero (000) for an emergency can be the difference between life and death.
The Triple Zero (000) service is the quickest way to get the right resources from emergency services to help you. It should be used to contact Police, Fire or Ambulance services in life-threatening or time-critical situations.
