Paint mishap on major highway as truck rolls - Yass
Published: 21 Jul 2022 11:59am
Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews are leading a major clean-up effort after a truck crash near Yass in the Southern Tablelands.
The B-double was carrying 20 litre drums of water-based paint and paint thinners, when it rolled onto its side shortly after 9pm last night.
The load ended up over 100 metres of the northbound lanes of the Hume Highway between Yass Valley Way and Wargeila Road.
Firefighters put in place physical measures to prevent further spread of the liquid, before HAZMAT crews arrived on-scene and contained the mishap.
NSW Police and the RMS have been controlling traffic, with all northbound lanes and one of two southbound lanes still closed.
FRNSW is now working with the Environment Protection Authority (EPA) to fully resolve the situation.
The driver was treated by NSW Ambulance for a broken arm.
