Published: 24 Oct 2022 05:15pm
Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) is currently battling a large blaze in the old Kurri Kurri Workers Club in the State's lower Hunter region.
More than 50 firefighters and 12 fire trucks are on scene at the fire in Lang Street, which broke out at 3.15 pm.
Crews are working to protect neighbouring properties which have all been evacuated. There are no reported injuries at this time.
There is extreme fire activity and large volumes of black smoke and residents are advised to stay indoors and keep all doors and windows closed.
FRNSW specialist Hazmat crews are monitoring air quality and water run-off.
NSW Police, NSW Ambulance and Council are supporting operations. NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) has also been notified of the incident.
Superintendent Adam Dewberry from Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) said this is a timely reminder that calling Triple Zero (000) for a fire emergency can be the difference between life and death, or a building or other property being saved or destroyed.
The Triple Zero (000) service is the quickest way to get the right resources from emergency services to help you. It should be used to contact Police, Fire or Ambulance services in life-threatening or time-critical situations.
