Roof collapse following house fire - Raymond Terrace

Published: 02 Nov 2022 03:21pm

A roof has collapsed on a property following a house fire in Raymond Terrace near Port Stephens earlier today.

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) and NSW Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS) crews responded to numerous Triple Zero (000) calls about the blaze in Woodlands Place just after 8.00 am.

Firefighters observed large volumes of smoke on the way to the incident and upon arrival, found a single-level property well alight with flames through the roof.

More than 20 firefighters battled the blaze in strong wind conditions and managed to extinguish it just after 10.00 am.

The property suffered extensive structural damage in the fire.

One person was treated for smoke inhalation by NSW Ambulance.

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.

Superintendent Adam Dewberry from Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) said this is a timely reminder to have at least one working smoke alarm installed on every level of your home, it is the law.

The risk of a fatality in the home is halved if there is a working smoke alarm. Yet, 50 percent of residential home fires attended by FRNSW do not have a working smoke alarm.

“A fire can take hold in just three minutes, so it is vital to have working smoke alarms in your home and to test them regularly”, he said.
