Fire and Rescue NSW crews battle large scrap metal blaze - Blacktown
Published: 27 Nov 2022 09:53am
More than 80 Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) firefighters have fought a large blaze in a scrap metal yard at Blacktown, in Sydney's west, overnight.
FRNSW received numerous Triple Zero (000) calls about a building on fire and a large pall of smoke in Tattersall Road around 1am.
The first crews on scene immediately called for back-up upon arrival as they were confronted with a large pile of scrap metal ablaze.
More than 25 fire engines, including aerial platforms and 'bulk' water tankers, responded as firefighters attacked the 'fourth alarm" emergency on numerous fronts, gaining control of the blaze within 30-minutes.
Heavy machinery was then used to break apart the burning scrap heap to allows crews access to deep-seated flames.
Crews extinguished the fire and remained to monitor the site.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
