Fire destroys family home - Moss Vale

Published: 09 Jan 2023 04:38pm

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) investigators are trying to determine whether faulty heat lamps are responsible for a blaze that has destroyed a home at Moss Vale in the state's Southern Highlands.

Fire consumed the battle-axe property in Church Road around 8am today.

FRNSW trucks from Moss Vale, Bowral and Mittagong raced to the scene and quickly determined no-one was home.

The firefighters attacked the intense blaze from numerous sides but the flames spread to the roof, causing it to collapse.

A Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS) or drone was later deployed, providing fire crews with an aerial view of the fire's hot spots, allowing them to assess the extent of damage.

Firefighters are trying to confirm what started the fire but are examining lamps used to heat a Bearded Dragon lizard terrarium as a possible cause.
