Firefighters battle grass fires along rail line - Lavington
Published: 10 Jan 2023 06:33pm
More than 50 firefighters and a water-bombing aircraft are attacking a series of grass fires that have broken out along a rail line in Albury on the NSW-Victoria border.
A fire initially broke out on an empty grain train that stopped at an underpass near Thurgoona Drive at Lavington just before 4pm.
The flames then spread, igniting grass along the rail line.
Alerted by a Triple Zero (000) call, 18 fire trucks from Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) and the Rural Fire Service rushed to the scene.
FRNSW firefighters, wearing breathing apparatus, used CO2 extinguishers to put out the train fire.
Fire crews have contained the grass fires and have called in an RFS water-bombing aircraft to attack the flames at multiple locations.
No-one's been injured in the incident.
Authorities have established an exclusion zone around the site and have urged the public to remain clear.
