Shortly after 2am this morning, Fire and Rescue NSW crews from Tweed Heads and Banora Point Fire Stations and Queensland Fire and Rescue Service were called to a unit fire on Coyne St, Coolangatta, after a large volume of Triple Zero (000) calls reported the incident.
Firefighters arrived to find a unit block well alight with a number of residents evacuated.
Searches were conducted after residents of the unit block were reportedly unaccounted for, however, the no one was found to be trapped in the building and an all-clear was given.
The blaze was extinguished shortly after 3:30 am with one unit completely destroyed by fire and neighbouring units receiving severe fire damage.
Investigations into the cause of the blaze are ongoing.
A Fire and Rescue NSW spokesperson said this is a timely reminder that calling Triple Zero (000) for a fire emergency can be the difference between life and death, or a building or other property being saved or destroyed.
The Triple Zero (000) service is the quickest way to get the right resources from emergency services to help you. It should be used to contact Police, Fire or Ambulance services in life-threatening or time-critical situations.
