Firefighters successfully contain main street blaze - Moruya
Published: 04 Sep 2025 05:14pm
Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews have stopped a fire in a business from spreading to a number of neighbouring properties in Moruya, on the state’s south coast.
FRNSW received numerous Triple Zero (000) calls about the blaze on Vulcan Street at approximately 2:40am.
The first crews on scene, confronted with a single level building with two separate occupancies well alight, immediately started tackling the blaze.
With the structure beginning to collapse, firefighters were forced to withdraw to safer positions.
More than eight fire trucks and 30 firefighters took approximately three hours to control the fire.
Operations were supported by an aerial ladder platform from Wollongong, Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS), or drones, as well as NSW Rural Fire Service, NSW Police and NSW Ambulance.
Due to the structural collapse, the building continued to smoulder for some time.
FRNSW fire investigators are currently on scene with NSW Police working to determine where and how the fire started.
