New Light Bushfire Tanker - Picton
Published: 19 Jun 2023 12:39pm
Fire and Rescue NSW's station at Picton, in Sydney's south-west, has received another upgrade with the arrival of a new state-of-the-art, light Bushfire Tanker.
The new Tanker, built on an Isuzu chassis by Macarthur company, Alphatex Industries, replaces the older Mitsubishi Canter light vehicle.
It features a Cabin Protection System (CPS), which improves safety for Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews operating at bushfire incidents, along with wheel water protection sprayers and another water nozzle, mounted on the bull-bar, offering added crew safeguards.
The tanker also boasts exhaust system enhancements that reduce diesel particulates emanating from the vehicle, thereby reducing firefighter exposure to potentially dangerous emissions.
Included in its firefighting arsenal is a pump that can produce foam to extinguish fires efficiently.
It also carries breathing apparatus for the fire crew and offers more storage room than its predecessor.
Picton FRNSW Captain, William Morris, says his crew is rapt with the station’s new addition.
“Firefighters at 421 station are thrilled to have received the new light tanker.
“It is an upgrade from our previous appliance, providing us with a greater level of firefighter safety and it increases our station’s capability to better serve our community".
The light tanker joins the recently installed Iveco Compressed Air Foam System (CAFS) Pumper, ensuring the community of Picton remains well-protected by FRNSW.
