Burning building collapse - Update - Auburn

Published: 02 Mar 2023 03:46pm

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews have contained a large fire that has caused a building to collapse this afternoon at Auburn, in Sydney's west.

16 fire trucks and around 50 firefighters rushed to the Provincial Street property just before 3pm and found the building at the rear of a church engulfed in fire.

Firefighters, wearing breathing apparatus, entered the building to search for occupants but were forced back by the intense heat and flames.

A short time later, the weatherboard and iron building collapsed.

Crews have contained the fire, preventing it from spreading to adjacent units, a home and community building.

Contrary to earlier reports, the church was not impacted.

There are no reports of injuries or anyone unaccounted for at this stage.

Motorists are urged to avoid the area.
