Fire and Rescue NSW extinguishes blaze at abandoned Riverina service station - Narrandera
Published: 25 Mar 2024 02:04pm
Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) has used drone technology to inspect damage and detect hotspots after fire engulfed a former service station at Narrandera, in the state's Riverina, overnight.
The blaze broke out in Larmer Street just before midnight, taking a few minutes to devour the abandoned building and cause parts of it to collapse.
FRNSW immediately deployed a dozen firefighters and three fire trucks from the township and nearby Leeton.
There was no identified risk of explosion as the site had been decommissioned several years ago and the petrol tanks taken out of service.
Fire crews fought for more than three hours to control and extinguish the fire.
FRNSW also deployed Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS), or drones, to inspect safety hazards and zero-in on reignition points.
No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
The site today has been handed over to NSW detectives, who continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the fire.
