***VISION ALERT: Special Chinese Lion Dance to promote happiness and prosperity at nation’s busiest fire station - Sydney

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) has heralded the Lunar New Year with a special Chinese Lion Dance at the nation’s busiest fire station.

FRNSW Commissioner, Jeremy Fewtrell, his executive team and the crew from 001 City of Sydney station welcomed the dynamic demonstration by the Chinese Youth League’s Lion and Dragon dance troupe.

The performance symbolises the warding off of evil spirits at the 141-year-old station and the promotion of good fortune and happiness.

Commissioner Fewtrell was delighted with the gesture, recognising FRNSW’s close ties with the state’s Chinese communities and business leaders.

“It’s been terrific to host the dance troupe and show the performers and the President of the Haymarket Chamber of Commerce, Vincent Lim, through our historic fire station,” Commissioner Fewtrell said.

“Fire and Rescue is proud of our engagement with the Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) communities of New South Wales, including Chinese-Australians, particularly in relation to fire prevention and preparedness.

“This performance celebrates those ties and the role the City of Sydney fire station has played for more than 140 years, protecting the city and nearby Haymarket and Chinatown precincts.”
