Building Fire - Tweed Heads South

Published: 24 Oct 2020 05:39am

Just before 6am, 24 October, Fire and Rescue NSW responded to a commercial building on Greenway Drive, Tweed Heads South after receiving a Triple Zero (000) call with reports of a building fire.

Multiple crews from Fire Stations across Northern NSW arrived to find smoke issuing from a large single level commercial building and worked to control the blaze.

Due to the intensity of the fire and the possibility of wall collapse, fire fighters withdrew from inside the structure and worked to extinguish the blaze externally.

Hazardous Material specialist from Tweed Heads Fire Station worked to prevent contaminated runoff entering nearby drains.

NSW Police and NSW Ambulance attended the incident although no injuries have been reported.

As a result of the incident, the structure has been significantly damaged by smoke and fire, investigations into the cause are ongoing.

Superintendent Adam Dewberry from Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) said this is a timely reminder that calling Triple Zero (000) for an emergency can be the difference between life and death.

The Triple Zero (000) service is the quickest way to get the right resources from emergency services to help you. It should be used to contact Police, Fire or Ambulance services in life-threatening or time-critical situations.
