Plane crash emergency in Sydney park - Bossley Park
Published: 22 Aug 2024 04:18pm
Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews have rushed to a park in Sydney's south-west where a light plane has made a crash landing.
The single-engine aircraft, with two people on board, was on a training flight when it made a forced landing at Terone sports park in Bossley Park, around 2.30 this afternoon.
It appears the plane suffered engine failure in flight.
The young pilot shut down a series of onboard systems and made the emergency landing.
The plane has come to rest amongst trees, near sporting courts, in the corner of the park.
The pilot and his passenger suffered minor injuries but have refused treatment by ambulance paramedics.
The sports park was occupied by students from an adjacent school at the time of the crash but none have been injured.
Six fire crews, including HAZMAT and Rescue specialists, from Smithfield, Cabramatta, Bonnyrigg Heights, Yennora and Chester Hill responded to the scene, along with senior FRNSW Commanders.
Upon arrival, Police closed Restwell Road in both directions.
Firefighters have established a 100-metre fire protection zone and are monitoring the site for any atmospheric change or fuel leaks.
The aircraft was reportedly carrying up to 340 litres of fuel.
The cause of the incident is under investigation.
